It’s the weekend
Always look on the bright side of life.
When you’re chewing on life’s gristle,
Don’t grumble, give a whistle.
Yes indeed dear followers, another weekend approacheth.
But if life seems jolly rotten, then there’s something you’ve forgotten. That’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing. When you’re feeling in the dumps, don’t be silly chumps. Just purse your lips and whistle, that’s the thing.
And always look on the bright side of life. Da dum da dum da dum!
But if you need any further inspiration for the weekend ahead lads, then look no further than the dastardly news that greeted HX natives on Sunday morning last, St Patrick’s Day, the national holiday, and how those same natives replaced a grumble with a whistle.
Said bad news:
For many, the cancellation of a planned duck race would be greeted with nail-biting, wringing of hands, tears, and other ailments both physical and mental. But the denizens of HX are made of sterner stuff.
What better way to resurrect a cancelled duck race than to reschedule it for Easter Sunday – the day of resurrection! How cool is that? How cool is HX?

The mind reels. Were the concerns for the ducks’ safety? For the spectators’ health? And what reparations will be made to the people who traveled long distances with their duck, only to be turned away by a sign? Well … as you point out, Easter Sunday may be the perfect day to resurrect this (no doubt wildly popular) event. Thanks for the laugh, MB.

Hi H. Thanks for comment and the concern. The local river was in flood and there was a serious danger half the village would fall in and disappear forever. I was going to tell them about Noah/Ark and the possibility of restaging that event, but thought better of it in the end. They might have considered me a smart-ass Arab blow-in, despite my HX born & bred credentials. “Blow-in” is the HX term for outsiders btw. Anyway looking forward to hearing the race result from afar on resurrection day. May the best duck win.
