Muslims the world over are celebrating the festival of Eid Al Adha in the coming days. The dates may differ slightly in different countries, as far as MB is aware, as Eid starts on the 10th day of a certain lunar month.
Eid Al Adha translates as the ‘Festival of Sacrifice’ and celebrates God’s intervention to save the son of Abraham whom Abraham was about to sacrifice on Gods command. In thanks, Abraham sacrifices a sheep instead. The story is also contained in the Christian Bible as most readers will know, the only difference in the two versions being that in the Bible, the son was mentioned as Isaac, whilst Islamic tradition (albeit not mentioned in the Quran) states that the son was Ishmael, the brother of Isaac. MB has no clue why such a difference exists in the two versions, but feel free to impart any wisdom you may have to MB in that regard.
Eid is not a good time to be a goat or sheep or cow. The animal markets are crazy busy in the Middle East at this time as Muslim residents go out and order their animal of choice for sacrifice. Traditionally, one-third of the meat must go to charity, one-third to self and one-third to extended family.
MB hit the Doha animal market last night to take a look and gives you below a broad selection of shots taken. Maybe too broad, MB is thinking, but what the heck. MB could just have given you all maybe 5 or 10 awesome shots, but instead, he gives you 30+. How awesomely generous is MB?!
Eid Mubarak to all Muslim friends of MB.
