A few years back MB visited the incredible Petra in Jordan. Day and night trips are organised by the local authorities. The walk from the nearby village of Wadi Musa (Valley Of Moses) brings you to the edge of the ancient city but you must still travel through the narrow 1.2km long channel through the mountain (called the ‘Siq) which brings you to the first building you encounter on entering Petra, called the Treasury. The nighttime journey is illuminated by hundreds of brightly burning lanterns on the ground for the entire journey, allowing all to walk safely. Visitors sit on the ground in front of the Treasury on the nighttime visit to hear a little of the city’s archeological history. The light from the burning lanterns lights up the rock face just behind.
