I’d rather be a Muslim than a goat
Yes I would
If I only could
I surely would
(From the song ‘El Condor Pasa‘ by Simon & Garfunkel – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pey29CLID3I – if you want to take a listen)
But seriously. It’s a great occasion for Muslims. And for all Muslim families. The biggest religious occasion of the year. You will see dads & sons doing ‘dads & sons’ things. Buying the sheep or goat for the family. You will see whole families out together sharing the tradition of buying the animal for the sacrifice and the feast. You will see many dads holding daughter’s hands. Doing the universal ‘dad & daughter’ thing.
And all of that is part & parcel of the tradition. Joyous & festive. Family & religious tradition.
But if you are not a Muslim it might not be so great. If you are a sheep or a goat for example. Then for sure at this time of the year you will be wishing you had taken some annual leave to a non Muslim destination. Like Ireland. Or Luxembourg. Or Liechtenstein.
But MB is just joking of course. And no disrespect intended to anyone. Animals the world over provide meat and hides and much more for the human population. Since time immemorial. And at the end of the day, Eid is about the sacrifice and the thanksgiving. And the sheep & goats get sacrificed in the halal/permitted way. That’s the way of things at Eid Al Adha.
