Threes – A story told with three photos
Hindu cremation at the Bagmati holy river, Kathmandu, Nepal. October 2012.
The body arrives at the temple. The feet of the body are dipped three times in the holy river. The body is cremated which is started by putting on fire the straw in the mouth – generally by the eldest son, which releases the soul.
Fascinating post – love the contrast between the Hindu tradition and the soccer-shirt- wearing person tending to the funeral pyre.

Thanks TSV.
Was a fascinating spectacle to watch. Happens daily with multiple funerals, generally in the morning. Is allowed for the public to watch it from the other side of the Bagmati river. Here’s a post I made after I returned – check out the paragraph called ‘Funerals’ https://michealdebarra.com/2012/11/02/hx-reportscaling-the-peaks-nepal-trip-irishman-in-the-middle-east/
And for a few pics from that day – https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.4824303254288.192547.1497695183&type=1&l=1925b1f461
As for the football angle – it truly is the international language!
