Photos below from Sharjah animal market today 03 October 2014. Sharjah is one of the seven Emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
All the animals you see in the pics will be sacrificed tomorrow morning by the permitted/halal method – cutting their throats by sharp knives and bleeding to death. Muslims the world over will later in the day eat the meat of the sacrifice – to celebrate the story of Abrahams agreement to sacrifice his son, the intervention of the angel Gabriel to stop him from so doing on God’s instruction, and the subsequent killing of a sheep by Abraham in thanksgiving. This is the Islamic feast of Eid Al Adha/The Feast Of The Sacrifice. It is the primary religious festival in the Islamic calendar.
The story is contained in both the Bible and the Quran. Interestingly, the Bible version of the story states that it was Isaac who was to be sacrificed by Abraham. While the Quran states that it was Abraham’s other son Ishmael. Conflict!
Eid mubarak to all MB’s Muslim friends.
As ever, double click any pic for a better view.

Thanks Dahlia. Yes. the majority sacrifice are goats – from Pakistan & Somalia. They also have goats from Saudi Arabia, India, & Iran. Maybe one or two other countries also. Same with the sheep, but not so many as the maaza! Cattle are also used – by large families I believe or maybe group of related families.

I presume the little missus sent Abdulla off to the market with strict instruction to bring back goat that would not add to her waistline. That must be the explanation.
